What happened to my free year?

One feature which attracted me to sign up with OVH to transfer my hosting was the inclusive domain for the first year. I didn’t see anything in the T&Cs to say the domain had to be newly registered. The domain came up for renewal shortly after transfer, but I was billed for it.

Then I expected it would be paid automatically, because I had set auto-renewal, and I had a payment method registered (which is how I subscribed for my OVH package in the first place), but it wasn’t and I had to do it manually. Subsequently every time I tried to set auto-renew in the dashboard, it refused to budge from manual and I had to open a support ticket (it’s OK now).

This does not inspire confidence.
